English poet, Richard Barnfield, states in a sonnet, “Dowland to thee is dear, whose heavenly touch, upon the lute doth ravish human sense.” Held in high esteem by his fellow musicians for his music compositions, John Dowland (1563-1626), is known for his hauntingly beautiful melodies, sad, morbid lyrics, and mood swings. Come enjoy an evening of Ayres by famous Renaissance composer John Dowland and other works by Henry VIII, Thomas Ravenscroft, and Tobias Hume.
